Top 25: Ski on Neon

Ski on Neon is currently #1 in the Top 25 Free section in the App Store

Yes I know… Ski on Neon is a stripped down clone of Tiny Wings. Press and hold to to make your little skier guy tuck and gain velocity while going downhill, release to let the momentum launch him uphill and into the air. So it’s not too original… but it’s fun as hell!

If you’ve never played Tiny Wings, this is a game of timing. Each time your skier goes airborne you need to try and get him to land cleanly on a downhill slope so that the forward momentum continues to build, and if you stink it up by making (or just letting) him land in a bad spot then you’re faced with the somewhat painful task of trying to regain speed with incremental jumps. If you manage to string together four good jumps in a row without hitting a hill the wrong way you’ll get a nice speed burst that temporarily turns you into an airborne comet-looking thing.

Timing your jumps, gaining massive air, and timing your landings is a pattern of gameplay that’s both fun and frustrating. This is the kind of game where certain personality types will be hitting the restart button constantly because of that nagging feeling that one bad landing can ruin an entire run.

A bunch of different gameplay modes are included with the game, and all are basically the same thing but they use different metrics for measuring success. For example, Speed Trials demands that you finish a course within a certain amount of time, while Tech Slopes combines time and altitude requirements, and Challenge Air Time rewards you for staying airborne. A multiplayer pass-n-play mode is also included which is pretty cool.

If you like Tiny Wings or just need a new casual gaming addiction, head to the App Store’s “Top 25 Free” category and grab Ski on Neon. It’s #1 as of right now so it should be easy to find.

Fun Yeah!
Sound & Graphics Barebones but well done. Who says you need a team of expensive designers to create a good game?
Controls Touch or don’t touch, it’s easy
Replay Value Lots of different gameplay modes make it very replayable
Overall I’ll dub this one worthy of the #1 spot
